Overview

The course in Psychology at the University of Basel conveys the ability to take on diagnostic, advisory and evaluating tasks in health and social services, in education and training, in administration, business and industry. Research methods can be safely applied and empirical data can be appropriately statistically evaluated. In addition to technical content, students acquire personal and social skills in internships and group work. 

The Faculty of Psychology is committed to evidence-based, scientifically sound psychology in research and teaching with the overarching goal of improving human well-being. She understands people as complex bio-psycho-social beings who develop, act in and help shape different living and working environments.

Course structure

The master’s degree is the standard degree and the second degree after the bachelor’s degree. The master’s degree comprises a total of 120 credit points (CP). The Master’s program in Psychology is a mono course without a minor with three possible specializations. The degree for all three specializations is a "Master of Science in Psychology".

One ECTS credit point corresponds to approximately 30 hours of work.

Career opportunities

Psychologists work, among other things, in school psychology services, in educational and career counseling, in child and adult protection authorities, in guardianship, in the penal system as well as in adult education and in clinical health care (prevention, therapy and rehabilitation). In the economy you can find them in the areas of work organization, organizational development, marketing, training support, personnel selection and consulting.
