As a student of the European Global Studies master's program, you are dealing with European societies in their complex relationships with each other and their interrelationships with societies, especially in Asia and Africa.


European Global Studies offers you a practice-oriented academic education based on the latest scientific findings from European research. The course conveys concepts and methods that capture Europe's global connectivity both in its historical context and in its meaning for the future. These include the disciplinary and interdisciplinary research on globality and globalization, governance and statehood, Europeanization and regionalization as well as the transnational integration of economy, politics, society and law. The future topics of conflict analysis and conflict management, migration, sustainability and demographic change are also dealt with in the study.

Programme Structure

The Master is the second degree after the Bachelor. The master's degree program comprises a total of 120 credits (CP). The master program European Global Studies is a so-called monostudy course without further subjects.

Academic Requirements

Holders of a Bachelor’s degree with a total of 180 ECTS credits from a university recognized by the University of Basel will be admitted without restrictions if they have earned a minimum of 120 ECTS credit points in one or more of the study directions mentioned above.
