Overview

The Master of Landscape Architecture program from The University of Western Australia provides emphasis on ecological, cultural and social design considerations at global, regional and local levels.

Gain the knowledge and skills to respond to complex issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, urban ecology and water sensitive design by applying systems thinking and creative practice to develop long-term, multi-scale solutions.

Students have opportunities to engage in Work Integrated Learning and placements through Practicum units.

Building on undergraduate studies in Landscape Architecture (or relevant conversion units), students acquire strong theoretical and practical knowledge and the high-level technical, analytical, design and communication skills necessary to formulate solutions to challenges and produce creative landscape architecture outcomes.

The Master of Landscape Architecture is offered in two modes: Coursework; or Coursework and Dissertation.

In addition to core studies, in the Coursework mode students are offered the choice of enrolling in either a series of option units covering a range of topics or a specialisation in a related area of expertise (such as Environmental Planning or Urban Design).

In the Coursework and Dissertation mode, in addition to core studies students pursue an independent research project of their choice.

Career Pathways

This course is primarily concerned with the quality of the environment.

A Master of Landscape Architecture degree provides a wide range of employment options, including working as a landscape architect, an environmental consultant, an urban designer, an environmental manager, a government policy advisor or a landscape architecture educator/academic.

Accreditation

The UWA Master of Landscape Architecture is accredited by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).

After finishing the Master of Landscape Architecture, graduates must complete at least two years of professional practice before being eligible to become a Registered Landscape Architect.
