Overview
The Bioengineering course from Abdullah Gül University (AGU) focuses on topics such as biomedical computing and imaging, biomedical device technology, cell and molecular engineering, and regenerative medicine. These areas can be further detailed as the design and production of systems such as biomaterials inspired by nature, artificial substitutes for organs and tissues, smart drug carriers, sensor-chip systems used in diagnosis and treatment, and biomedical equipment designed for disease monitoring.
Applications include the biosynthesis of animal or plant products, recombinant DNA technology, the improvement and control of foods, and the development and control of high-value-added biotechnological products such as GMOs.
Considering that successful individuals in both academia and the business world today operate in interdisciplinary fields rather than a single area and achieve success this way, the importance of the interdisciplinary field of Bioengineering, which correctly blends engineering sciences and fundamental sciences, is better understood.
Career opportunities:
- With a learner-centered approach aimed at training individuals who will shape the future and seek solutions to global problems, AGU, a research university, aims to train bioengineers with international competitiveness and employability worldwide, thanks to its entirely English-taught Bioengineering Master's programme and a distinguished academic staff with international experience, all of whom have completed their doctorates at leading universities around the world.
- In Turkey, bioengineers have become more recognized by firms and institutions, especially in the last five years, thanks to university-industry events that connect students with the industry. Consequently, job listings now include the "bioengineer" profession.
- In Turkey, bioengineers are employed in industrial fields such as healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food, and the environment, in production, R&D, or administrative units, in positions such as product specialist/manager, production control manager, quality assurance engineer, R&D engineer, sales and marketing engineer, and sales and application specialist. Additionally, bioengineers have the option to pursue an academic career and become scientists at universities.
