This Primary 3-7 programme offered by The University of Winchester prepares you to teach the 3–7 age range. Accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) for the purpose of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Successful completion of the PGCE Primary leads to the PGCE with recommendations for award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Lower Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • A first or second-class Honours degree (or equivalent qualification). Applicants are required to have gained GCSE passes at Grade C or above in English Language, Science and Mathematics. 
  • Completion of pre-entry Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy as required by the Department of Education. Please note that skills test passes only remain valid for 3 years from the date of the test you passed.
  • Applicants are advised to access the Department for Education (DfE) website for general information. This guidance sets out the DfE requirements for gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and identifies the minimum academic requirements that candidates must meet to be eligible for admission.
