Description
The Leverhulme Trust was formed on the death of Lord Leverhulme who made his fortune through Lever Brothers. This company later became Unilever which still operates today, making a variety of basic consumer goods.
From the earliest days, Lord Leverhulme was also a philanthropist, supporting a variety of educational, religious, civic, community, and medical causes. His achievements were recognised in 1922 when the title Lord Leverhulme of the Western Isles was conferred upon him. Today, the Trust makes awards for the support of research and education, and one area of interest is fine and performing arts. They have been supporting GSA in various ways since 2005.
