Description
The Hugo and Irma Oppenheimer Biology Department Award was created to support an undergraduate or graduate Biology student who shows excellence in research and teaching promise.
Dr. Steven Oppenheimer, CSUN Emeritus Professor of Biology, established this Award in honor of his parents, Hugo and Irma Oppenheimer. The Oppenheimers left Germany to escape the Nazis in 1939 and emigrated to the U.S. settling in Brooklyn, New York where Dr. Oppenheimer was born in 1944.

Eligibility
- Undergraduate students must enroll in 6 units or more for the current Spring term.
- Graduate students must enroll in 4 units or more for the current Spring term.
- Must be an undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Biology.
- Must demonstrate excellence in research and strong interest in entering the teaching profession.
- Must have a GPA greater than or equal to a 3.0.

Must request (2) letters of recommendation via the my Matador Scholarships portal.
Must include a brief statement regarding intention of pursuing a career in teaching.
If selected as the recipient, you agree to write a thank-you letter to the donor(s) and be willing to meet with the donor(s) or designee(s). Both will be coordinated by the College’s Director of Development.
