The University of East London (UEL) recognises that people seeking asylum in the UK are likely to be some of the most vulnerable in the society.  The University is working with the Helena Kennedy Foundation to support such people accessing higher education.

Description

The Postgraduate Scholarship For Asylum Seekers is offered at University of East London.

Applicable programmes

Benefits

Successful applicants will be awarded 100% tuition fee support until they are awarded such immigration status that enables them to access support from Student Finance.

Eligibility

  • An asylum seeker or the partner/dependent of an asylum seeker;

OR

  • An asylum seeker/partner/dependant who has been granted Discretionary Leave to Remain (DLR) or some other form of temporary status as a result of an asylum claim.

AND

  • Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for a taught postgraduate course at UEL.
  • Unable to access mainstream student funding .
  • Not require additional support for living costs.
  • Provide documentation from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) to confirm your immigration status and give UEL consent to check this with our Premium Account Manager at UKVI.

Before starting your application, you must make an application to start an eligible course at UEL. Once you have applied, you will be given a unique Student ID number, which you will need in order to submit a scholarship application.  

If you are already enrolled on a programme at UEL, you will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship towards that same programme.

Scholarship applications for the academic year 2025/6 are now open! The deadline to submit your application is Sunday 3 August 23:55pm.

Decision outcomes will be communicated to applicants within 3 weeks of the closing date via the same email you registered with.
