Description

The Tom Lyons Honours Scholarship was established by the Lyons Family and other generous donors in memory of Emeritus Professor Tom Lyons who enjoyed a distinguished 40-year career at Murdoch University.

He was among the very first faculty to be involved in establishing the Environmental Science degree at Murdoch and led the atmospheric science and air pollution meteorology components of the program.

The scholarship offers a $8,000 amount, to help you with your studies

Eligibility

  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, NZ Citizen or International Student
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 points (part-time) in an honours course in Environmental Science; priority will be given to students doing a project on "Atmospheric and Climate Science"
  • Have a record of high achievement in previous studies and/or professional work, whether or not related to the proposed field of study in your honours course
  • Financial and/or personal hardship might also be considered.

This scholarship opens for applications from the first week of October each year. You will need your Murdoch Student ID to access the online application form.

This scholarship requires you to provide the following documents: 

completed application form

a personal statement (of no more than one A4 page) 

a summary of your intended honours project (of no more than one A4 page)

written confirmation from your proposed honours supervisor confirming supervision of the project

evidence of academic performance

a written reference from a person qualified to comment on either your academic studies or current or past employment
