Description
The bursary supports first-degree students who have completed an eligible progression programme or who meet specified household income and postcode-based deprivation criteria.
Benefits
£1,000 cash for each year of the course, excluding industrial placement years.
Eligibility
You are eligible if you have completed one of the following programmes:
- University of Leicester progression programme, (Access Leicester: Medicine, Access Leicester: STEM - NB. students who complete online pathway programmes will not be eligible for this bursary)
- In-person Sutton Trust Pathway programme (e.g. Pathways to Law, Pathways to Banking and Finance, or any other in-person Sutton Trust pathway) at the University of Leicester or another university listed on the Sutton Trust website. (Please note that students who complete an online pathway are not eligible for this), or
- completed a UKWPMED partner programme, or
- completed the Realising Opportunities programme
You are eligible if both of the following apply:
- You live in a postcode identified as Index of Multiple Deprivation Quintile 1 (IMD Q1) (an area of high deprivation). You can check whether your postcode is identified as IMD Q1 by using government IMD data*
- You have a verified household income of £30,000 or less**, as confirmed by Student Finance.

No separate application is required. Eligibility is assessed automatically using information supplied to UCAS, the University and the Student Loans Company.
Students must complete a Student Finance means test. Those who do not want a Maintenance Loan may request a £0 Maintenance Loan to allow their household income to be assessed.
