Description

The School of Historical Studies awards a limited number of bursaries to students embarking on the MRes in Philosophy. The Philosophy Master of Research Bursary is available for both full-time students (over one year) and part-time students (over two years).

The MRes in Philosophy is designed to provide students with research-based training in philosophy and also to serve as a foundation for starting an individual PhD project.

Benefits

As a partial tuition fee waiver, the value of each bursary is £4,000 for full-time students or £2,000 per annum over two years for part-time students.

Eligibility

  • All applicants meeting the following criteria are eligible to be considered for the Master of Research bursary:
    • Merit or Upper Second Class equivalent MA in Philosophy
    • or, exceptionally, excellent First Class equivalent BA in Philosophy.
  • You must be applying to study on a Birkbeck programme that is based at our Bloomsbury campus in London (this includes programmes delivered online).

Selection for these bursaries will be made by the School's Postgraduate Research Standing Committee, based on academic record, two academic references, a research proposal of up to 1000 words and a sample of written work of up to 5000 words.

All eligible applicants will be entered for the bursary unless they request otherwise.
