Description
Generous gifts from the UAB National Alumni Society will be used for the purpose of creating an endowed student award fund at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Spendable earnings from the UAB National Alumni Society Employee Endowed Scholarship fund will be used to assist exceptional incoming freshman who are the children of UAB faculty and staff who are active members of the UAB National Alumni Society.
Benefits
This is a one-time non-renewable annual award of $1,000. Funds will be disbursed prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Eligibility
- Be currently enrolled in or admitted to a degree-granting program at UAB.
- Be a first-time entering freshman. This scholarship is not open to transfer students or graduate school students. Students must attend UAB immediately following graduation from high school.
- Demonstrate leadership, extra-curricular activities, and community service during high school.
- Have at least one parent who is an alumnus/a of UAB and who is currently employed by UAB on a full-time basis.
- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 in order to keep the scholarship.
- Be enrolled full time.
- Preference will be given to students with an ACT score of 22 or higher.

The selection committee shall consider academic performance, leadership, and extra-curricular activity in making its selection. The committee shall determine the relative weight given to each criterion.
