Education

The UFZ teaching lab in Leipzig gives pupils from extended secondary schools and grammar schools (class 9 and above) as well as vocational students and pupils of vocational grammar schools the opportunity to gain insights into the modern world of environmental research and to conduct some of the current experiments for themselves. In a modern laboratory with the best equipment, pupils can find out what it means to work scientifically and to think in interdisciplinary dimensions. The maximum capacity is 16 pupils. Experiment times are between 9 am and 4 pm (or by appointment). Experiment days are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Research

Research at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ is organised into seven Divisions with a total of 37 Departments. The large number of Departments illustrates the wide spectrum and diversity of research at the UFZ.

Our environmental research in the three Core Subjects Land use/Biodiversity/Renewable Energies, Water/Soil and Chemicals in the Environment/Health as well as the two Cross-Sectional Competences Modelling/Monitoring and Social Sciences respond to societal challenges in times of global change: climate change, land-use change, demographic change and an increasing demand for food and energy.
