The history of higher education in Pécs dates back to 1367, when Louis the Great initiated the establishment of a university in the episcopal city of Pécs. As a result of an integration process of several stages, the University of Pécs was founded, which has become one of the most famous, prestigious institutions having a leading role in regional education.
We currently offer 31 Bachelor's and 29 Master's, 8 One-tier Master's and 15 Doctoral programs in the fields of Business & Economics, Natural Sciences, Medical & Health Sciences, Human & Social Sciences, Arts and Engineering. We also offer various postgraduate trainings and preparatory courses for international students.
The University of Pécs is one of the leading research universities in the country with a huge professional research background. The Szentágothai Research Centre is home to a number of medical and scientific researches. The university has 22 doctoral schools which cover a broad spectrum of science and arts. The University of Pécs has ten dormitories. They are located in quiet, residential areas of the city. The Faculties of the University as well as the city centre are easily accessible from the dormitories. Most of the dormitories have recently been renovated. The rooms are nicely furnished and contain bathrooms. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered on a reasonable price level: approximately EUR 130 per month.
Students and staff of the University can use the majority of library services free of charge after subscribing to any of the faculty libraries or the Central Library. As ours is a public library, our subscribers include people from the city and the region, students from various Hungarian universities and many other people.
The UP Clinical Centre is one of the largest health care providers in Hungary. With its 29 health care units, nearly 3 000 staff members the centre have provided health care for several decades in Pécs and in the surrounding region. The Centre also plays an active role in the practical education of medical students and health care professionals.
Pécs is a beautiful place to study in. It is simultaneously a friendly place and a very active city, in which you can never be bored. You can be sure you will find everything here that a student could wish.

In order to ensure high international standards, strict quality control measures are applied. The Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC) conducts continuous institutional and program accreditation procedures and monitors the quality of educational activity for compliance with the European Standards and Guidelines. Hungarian higher education institutions and courses are accredited by HAC.
University of Pecs is a very average university. I haven't found it to be similar in education standards, culture, system, operations or anything else close to universities in good European countries or USA.
Most professors don't even speak English. And some of 'em are not providing us any type of study materials. Also, there are few racist professors and some of the professors than let any student pass the course.
