The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano was founded in 1997. Our university has a strong international outlook, as testified by its multilingual courses (German, Italian, English and Ladin) and the high number of students and teaching staff from abroad.


The Free University of Bozen - Bolzano prizes lifelong learning, where learning is valued for its own sake as well as for the social, cultural and personal benefits it brings.

The teaching programme aims to equip students with objective analytical skills and interdisciplinary potential as well as a social capital and a sense of civic duty. We have a policy of communicating knowledge in an active learning environment. Consequently, teaching takes place in small groups, which provides open and supportive working and studying conditions and which also allows students to participate in research.

In order to help prospective students make an informed decision about the choice of their future degree, we offer individuals and schools the opportunity to get to know our university through a variety of orientation events, like the Open Day, lectures of professors in schools, and many other opportunities of getting tailored information and advice.

Housing services

Student halls of residence of the Province of Bozen-Bolzano. The Office for the Right to Study of the Province of Bozen-Bolzano is in charge for the assignment of places in student halls. There are 508 places available in Bozen - Bolzano and 115 in Brixen - Bressanone. The places are given out on a first-come-first-served basis. Therefore, we recommend you to apply as soon as possible. 

Private rental agreements

Depending on the type (double room, single room or one-bedroomed flat) and the size of the accommodation, the monthly rent for one person can vary from € 250 to € 400.

Library services

The Library of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, with its campuses in Bozen-Bolzano, Brixen-Bressanone and Bruneck-Brunico, has been created as a multimedia centre that serves not only the University’s students and staff but also the local community.

Our mission has always been to provide the information required for teaching and learning, research and life-long learning. We can meet the current and future demands of our clients and our “just in time” motto means that we can provide access to traditional and online information quickly and conveniently.

WLAN/Wi-Fi is available:

  • at the unibz campuses (Bozen-Bolzano, Brixen-Bressanone, Bruneck-Brunico)
  • at Eurac Research
  • at the partner institutions of the Scientific Network (Museion, Monteverdi Conservatory, Museum of Nature South Tyrol, Philosophical-theological Academy Brixen-Bressanone, Bruneck-Brunico City Library, …).

At unibz there are no architectural barriers in any of its three campuses, nor in its student halls and canteens. If you are a prospective student with disabilities (including learning disabilities), you can rely on support from our Advisory Service throughout your time at our university.

Campus life

The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano has three campuses:

  • Bozen-Bolzano is the main campus, with the central offices and four of the five Faculties: Economics and Management, Computer Science, Design and Art, Science and Technology.
  • At the campus of Brixen-Bressanone you’ll find the Faculty of Education.
  • Bruneck-Brunico is the campus of the Bachelor Programme of “Management in Tourism, Sport and Event Management”, which is part of the Faculty of Economics and Management.

Student clubs

UNIBZ has a rich student life where students of all faculties can become members of our student associations. For their projects they are supported financially from the Advisory Service.


is a cultural association which organises extra-curricular freetime activities: the Rookie day (the welcome day for the freshers) parties, events organized by the debating club, seminars on various topics, movie nights, concerts  - e.g. Skateniamoci - and much much more!


The Sports Club University Bolzano (SCUB) offers a wide range of sports activities spanning from soccer to swimming and climbing.

One of the main incentives of moving to Bozen was the opportunity of studying in three languages. I studied at a language high school, but I had never studied German. I decided that my university experience should have implied some improvements. This is one of the mian reasons of my satisfaction.
