The University of Koblenz-Landau is a young, medium-sized university. In 1990 the university emerged from the former teacher training college. In the meantime research and teaching are organised in three linked interdisciplinary subject areas entitled "Learning", "Society" and "Environment".

Since its transformation from a teacher training college in 1990, numerous new departments and institutes have sprung up.


The university offers future specialists and executives a diverse range of Bachelor and Master programmes in education, social sciences, cultural studies, the humanities and life sciences as well as psychology and computer science. The traditional core of teaching at the university is its teacher training programmes for all school types.

In the area of continuing education a sophisticated range of study programmes, distance-learning programmes as well as seminars has been developed for an ever-changing working and professional environment.


Research is conducted in nationally and internationally linked working groups. The University of Koblenz-Landau also works closely together with partners in the local area. What is characteristic is the balanced relationship between theoretical and applied research. Current areas of research include education, environment, computer science as well as the humanities and social sciences, based on the three subject areas of the university.

The transfer of technology is one of the central tasks of the university and allows the systematic and planned utilisation of new scientific and technological knowledge in the economy, politics and society.

Student services

  • The University of Koblenz-Landau is committed to promoting internationalisation.
  • The International Office is the first point of contact for all matters related to international activities.
  • We provide advice and information for faculty members, international students and partner universities.

Housing services

You can either apply for one of the apartments in the halls of residence or look for accommodation on the private housing market.

  • The Student Services („Studierendenwerk“) are an independent organisation which runs most of the halls of residences in Germany. The University of Koblenz-Landau works closely together with the Studierendenwerk in Koblenz and Landau.
  • If you search for an accommodation on the private housingmarket from abroad, please also be cautious. Unfortunately, there is also fraud. Sometimes there are online ads for apartments which do not even exist.

Library services

The University Library provides information and literature for students, teachers and researchers at Koblenz and Landau.

Medical services

For students a health insurance is obligatory in order to study in Germany. This means you need to show a proof of your health insurance when you enrol at the University Koblenz-Landau.

We recommend you to arrange a travel health insurance for your journey to Germany and then to take out a regular health insurance when you are in Germany.

Campus life

  • Koblenz - where rivers meet

Being itself located in the scenic Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the city is surrounded by other natural beauties: the Eifel in the West, the Moselle valley in the southwest, which is known for its vineyards, the idyllic Lahntal in the east and the Westerwald in the Northeast.

  • Landau - where countries meet

The city of Landau is close to the French-German border. With the neighboring country, the city has a long history that was often marked by military conflicts.
