History
The teaching at universities of applied sciences is strongly oriented towards current economic demands. Ever since the first universities of applied sciences were founded in the 1970s, this type of education has become increasingly popular among students - especially those in business and engineering - and the companies hire them.
Education
The university offers a portfolio of 21 study programmes in four faculties (Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering, Elektrikal Engineering/Media/Computer Sciences, Industrial Engineering and Business Studies), which portrait current developments in Engineering and Economy.
Nationwide unique programmes such as Patent Engineering are complemented at our location in Amberg by programmes such as Renewable Energies, Plastics Engineering, Applied Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Media Production and Media Technology.
Research
Third-party-funds and partner models are part of the university’s success. The university sees itself as an enterprise offering services for its university region and beyond, which is highly acknowledged by the regional economy. With these third-party-projects, additional members of the staff could and can be financed at our university.
Plus, co-operations with companies have led to the implementation of projects such as “Partner Circle”, in which over twenty of the most renowned regional companies have joined to form a close network with the university.
In addition, there are further initiatives to realize a transfer of knowledge between university and industry.

A lot of stress due to a new environment
I like the professors style of teaching What I would like them to improve is that they should teach Germany language in class for about four semesters or up to B1 in order to make it learning easier for the international students
Oth Weiden rating
i am very happy with how everything is done at my uni.
Truly International
Even though it is there are students from all over the world, we never mingle together for whatever reason. You always see Germans in one gathering, Africans in another, Asians etc.
Student services
Applicants and students are in close contact with Student Office, Student and Career Service and International Office. From the moment a future student asks for information (material, admission forms, assistance concerning possible problems, organisation of a study abroad or an internship abroad, search for possibilities to get scholarships), help is at hand.
Campus life
The OTH Amberg-Weiden is a dynamic and supportive university that enables students to complete their studies swiftly and sucessfully. We have two campuses, one in the city of Amberg and one in the city of Weiden, about 40 km apart.
The Amberg campus houses the academic faculties of Electrical Engineering / Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering / Environmental Engineering, while the Weiden campus houses the faculties of Business Studies and Industrial Engineering.
