The University François-Rabelais was created in 1970 and is now the largest public higher education institution in the region.
The University includes 7 faculties, 2 institutes of technology and 1 engineering school that work together to provide a multidisciplinary network of exchange. Students can choose from a wide range of flexible and individualized courses, which aim to encourage personal initiative and develop independence and mutual cooperation. Lectures and tutorials are aimed at small groups of students so as to facilitate student participation.
The University of Tours also encourages international exchanges by creating solid links with other centres of learning in Europe, the United States, India, China, Vietnam and many other parts of the world.
The University of Tours attaches great importance to research in diverse scientific domains. It participates actively in major regional, national and European projects and is developing scientific programmes in cooperation with major public and private sector partners.
The Doctorate facilities for Health, Science and Technology studies and the study of Human and Sociological Sciences rely on the excellent quality of the laboratories and the research teams at the University, which are highly respected at the national and international level.
The University has close links with the major French Public Research Centres, as well as with industrial companies.

The Career Centre receives students every day for advice on searching a job or an internship, and offers workshops on CVs, motivation letters, preparing interviews, etc. A professional network is available for students looking for job or internship offers.
The University also created the Student Centre for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship (Pépite Centre), among others. It aims at developing our student’s entrepreneurial spirit through information, training and assistance in creating and developing their companies.

The University of Tours offers a wide range of services for international beneficiaries, such as such as guidance and assistance for enrolment procedures and consular paperwork. Teaming up with ESN Tours (Erasmus Student Network association), the University offers many activities all year long, such as cultural visits and social gatherings.
The University Center for Teaching French to International Students (CUEFEE) offers linguistic assistance to exchange students, as well as French courses for specialists. Through its Language Resource Centers (CRL), the University provides students with a guided self-study system tailored to their academic, professional and personal needs and targets.

The university library, equipped with Wi-Fi technology, is made up of around twenty specialist libraries. It contains a total of over 560,000 volumes, 4,792 periodical titles and 3,600 electronic titles.
A multidisciplinary team of doctors and nurses offer free individual consultations: General Practice, Dentistry, Psychology, Gynecology, Dermatology, Nutrition, Sports Medicine. The Mission Handicap Office implements global and customized actions to take into account the student’s needs so that he/she can make the best of his/her studies and social life.
All faculties are spread across the city of Tours, within different campuses. There are university canteens close to each of them, in addition to the countless restaurants in town.
Student members of the University Sports Centre can use the dance room, multi-sport hall and climbing wall, as well as participate in sport classes, events, competitions and training all year long. Special arrangements are available for high-level athletes.
There are around 60 student associations within the University of Tours, including international ones such as Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and garagErasmus (the professional network of the Erasmus Generation).
