The history of the Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences is very closely tied to the development of modern social work and social reforms. The institution’s roots reach back into the 19th century, when systematic training for social work was first established in Germany in the form of one-year courses.


Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin offers five undergraduate BA programmes, two consecutive MA programmes, and nine continuing education MA programmes. These pages provide information about the individual degree programmes, our comprehensive library, and the popular computer centre.


Research is integral to the development of higher education. Application-based research at ASH Berlin is aimed at the development and/or scientific management of innovations in professional practices in the social care and healthcare fields. Engaging in this type of research is also essential to ensuring that instruction and further training reflect the latest developments in the various disciplines.

Research at ASH Berlin focuses on three main areas:

  • Health and health care research
  • Social work research
  • Applied educational research

Student services

International Office will inform you:

  • Students at ASH about the possibility to complete parts of their studies abroad,
  • Foreign studentswho would like to do a study or practical training exchange at ASH,
  • University teachers and administrative employees about opportunities of foreign projects.

European integration and Globalization have a growing impact on higher education and continuously increase the demand of study programmes and qualification goals. The ASH is constantly trying to keep up with all the innovations that are emerging internationally for the benefit of their graduates and visiting students.

Library services

The ASH Library now provides access to 290 online journals.

The entire periodical inventory (printed and online) is alphabetically compiled in the ASH periodical list. Password protected journals can only be used in the library. Please contact the staff at the circulation desk.

ICT services

The computer centre at Alice Salomon Hochschule is responsible for ASH’s communication and information network. It provides ASH’s students, teachers, employees, and guests with the necessary services for their everyday work, such as:

  • computer workstations with scanners and printers
  • support with working on a PC
  • access to the WLAn network and ASH’s data banks
  • tutorials(training, computer classes)

smaller university, but quite a big one for a social work university of applied sciences. most of the courses are held in seminar form and content of teaching is often with a critical view, which is a good thing. dont know how it is for incoming internationals who dont speak German. There are courses in English and sometimes Spanish too for the bachelor programme, but as...
