Hochschule Fresenius University of Applied Sciences

From its main campus in Idstein near Wiesbaden, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences can look back on more than 165 years of tradition in science teaching. In 1848 Carl Remigius Fresenius founded the Fresenius Chemical Laboratory, which has devoted itself from the very beginning to practical laboratory work as well as education. Certification as a privately funded, state-approved university of applied sciences followed in 1971.

University offers full-time and part-time Bachelor's and Master’s degrees as well as vocational training.


It began in 1848 as Fresenius Chemical Laboratory; today Hochschule Fresenius – University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest private educational institutions in Germany. Its mission – both then as a laboratory and now as a university – has always been to unite research and development, education and service under a single roof. Initially it conducted research into “Chemistry/Biology/Pharmacy”.

We help our students to plan their foreign placements and answer all their related questions about foreign university semesters, work placements and language courses, as well as grant schemes and programmes.


The German Council of Science and Humanities regularly evaluates Hochschule Fresenius as a whole.
