The University was founded in 1968 by the Fondazione Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori, on the initiative of Senator Carlo Bo and Professor Silvio Baridon, as a University Institute of Modern Languages (I.U.L.M.). From the outset, the idea was to meet the needs of the labour market on the basis of an analysis of current trends.
The project that animates the activities of Università IULM is like a virtuous circle: the same elements recur at different times, but from time to time they appear enriched. Over the years, IULM's funding has increased steadily, including the provision of scholarships, research grants and doctoral grants, but also the recruitment and training of young scholars.
The key element is research, a starting point, which preludes the development of the educational opportunities, but also of arrival, for the graduates who carry it out and for the companies that benefit from it in the immediate future. The attention that IULM devotes to research is an important sign of consistency, which has its confirmation in the many works completed and in progress: works ranging from corporate communication to that of politics, from anthropology to fashion. A laboratory in continuous evolution that always produces new resources: not only for the University itself, but also for society in general, for institutions and businesses.
