Siauliai University

Šiauliai University is the biggest university in the Northern Lithuania and belongs both to regional and classical types.



The University was founded in 1997 after the merger of Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and Šiauliai Polytechnic Faculty of Kaunas University of Technology.


  • 3 faculties and 2 institutes: Faculty of Social Science, Humanities and Arts, Faculty of Technology, Physical and Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Education Science and Social Welfare, Research Institute and Continuing Studies Institute.
  • Studies are divided into three main cycles: first cycle – Bachelor's degree, second cycle – Special Professional studies and Master's degree studies, third cycle – Doctoral studies.
  • 59 Study Programmes (34 Bachelor’s and 25 Master's).
  • 24 International Study Programmes conducted in English or Russian


The University operates the following research centres: Gender Studies, Biological Research, Educational Researches, Energy and Environmentally Clean Technologies, Modelling of Physical Processes, Natural Science Education, Public Health, Social Research, Special Education, Technological Experiments, Biomedical Engineering, Art. There is European Studies Institute at the University as well.

Housing services

Šiauliai University Students' dormitory is situated in the centre of Šiauliai. The price for 1 person is around 70 EUR per month. Internet access in the room: 5,5 EUR per month (with the cable) and free wi-fi.

Library services

The library of Šiauliai University is one of the most modern academic libraries in Lithuania with 290 computerised workplaces (120 of them in a remote desktop mode), over 400 non-computerised workplaces, 5 rooms for group learning/seminars and 9 rooms for doctoral students and staff individual work and wireless internet access. The library premises are accessible to persons with wheelchairs.

ICT services

There is an Internet access in every room, so students may use their own computers in the rooms. The price is 5,5 EUR per month.
