Agrocampus Rennes has its origins in the École d'agriculture de Grandjouan (Loire-Atlantique) founded in 1830. Transferred to Rennes in 1896 onto the site it still occupies today, this national agricultural college for engineers has considerably developed its research-focussed scientific teaching over the decades.

About

History

Created in 2008, AGROCAMPUS OUEST took over from its two founding institutions, whose origins date back to the 19th century:

  • Agrocampus Rennes (National Institute of Agricultural and Agri-food Higher Education and Research)
  • The Institut national d'horticulture (INH) in Angers

Education

AGROCAMPUS OUEST offers 3 master's degrees exclusively taught in English and offers its master’s students all the advantages of a Grande école, or ‘elite public University-level college’, for life and environmental sciences and technologies:

  • a college on a human scale well connected to the professional sector: in the course of their studies, all students receive support in developing their career plans
  • training backed by cutting-edge research
  • a globally focussed college: over 70 academic partners, 10% foreign students on campuses

Research

The 13 research units (11 of which are under the authority of AGROCAMPUS OUEST, and with 3 of which it is associated) cover the 5 main areas with high application potential that AGROCAMPUS OUEST is keen to develop :

  • Vegetal, animal, systems
  • Environmental issues - resources, territories and urban planning
  • Fisheries science, sea, coastal zones
  • Food science
  • Landscapes
Its 130 research-lecturers conduct academic or applied research, intended to respond in an innovative fashion to current issues in life sciences. Scientific projects are jointly defined with partners.

Housing services

AGROCAMPUS OUEST Angers Campus does not have any student dormitories.However, the international relations department offers students the option of booking a room in the CAPETUDES university residences for one month (rent to be paid by the student). At the end of this period, students are free to continue renting or find alternative accommodation.
