It was founded in 1965 as Higher School of Commerce Ludwigshafen. In 1971 it became part of the University of Applied Sciences Rhineland Palatinate, which split up into seven autonomous universities in 1991.

As a central service unit of Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences, the library is responsible for providing literature and information to university members for study, teaching and research purposes. Moreover, it is generally open to all those pursuing scientific and professional purposes as well as those with an interest in the area of education and training.
