CUNY Lehman College

With more than 60,000 alumni and 12,000 students, Lehman College serves the Bronx and our surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center. The College is named after Herbert H. Lehman, who was governor of New York State, a U.S. Senator, and an internationalist. His values of dedicated public service continue to guide the College today.

About

History

Hunter College in the Bronx was built during the 1930s. During the Second World War, Hunter leased the Bronx Campus buildings to the United States Navy who used the facilities to train 95,000 women volunteers for military service as WAVES and SPARS.One of the first of its graduates, Sgt. Miriam Cohen, died in 2009. 

Education

A senior liberal arts college in The City University of New York, founded in 1968 and offering 51 undergraduate majors and programs; 46 graduate degree programs; 17 graduate certificates; and 11 doctoral programs in conjunction with the CUNY Graduate Center.

Career

The Career Exploration & Development Center is dedicated to educating, advising, and connecting students to career and post graduate opportunities. The staff are experts in providing guidance and services to currently enrolled students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Student services

Excellence (ACE) and Science Learning Center (SLC). The ISSP provides Lehman students with the opportunity to achieve academic success through the guidance and encouragement of peer tutors and professional staff members. 

Housing services

The mission of The Office of Housing and Residential Services is to provide a comfortable and safe, co-ed environment that fosters a sense of community, civic responsibility, an appreciation of cultural diversity, while promoting leadership and cultivating experiential development.

ICT services

The Academic IT Center is a place for the entire College community. Our primary goal is to assist students in becoming more efficient and effective learners. We are open to all who wants to enchance their academic IT skills.

Medical services

At the Student Health Center, the health care needs of our students are treated with respect, integrity, and compassion. When you call for an appointment, we strive to see you as quickly as possible. Your lifestyle, stress factors, and cultural indicators are part of the treatment plan that your health care provider develops with you

Campus life

The Lehman College campus is a thriving, productive, and nurturing environment, where student's benefit from numerous college sponsored support services and network activities via Lehman's popular clubs and organizations. The college's Center for the Performing Arts and APEX provide quality entertainment, fitness, athletic and recreational activities.

Sports facilities

The mission of the Office of Campus Life is to actively engage students in their academic personal and professional development. This is accomplished through involvement in co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as student government, clubs, leadership training programs, conferences, retreats, and dialogues.

Student clubs

Lehman College hosts over 50 student clubs and organizations ranging from academic societies to co-curricular, social and pre-professional groups. Your membership in a club/organization opens up the opportunity to learn and grow beyond the curricular experience in classrooms. You will get to work, first hand, on projects or activities, which will potencially help you develop leadership skills or increase your knowledge in a particular subject area.

Accreditation

Lehman College most recently received reaffirmation of accreditation in 2009 and the evaluation of the Periodic Review Report in 2014. Lehman's Accreditation Liaison Officer is Dr. Deirdre Pettipiece. Many of the academic programs at Lehman College are also accredited by discipline-specific accreditation agencies and associations.
