On Aug. 2, 1933, Tampa Junior College was transformed into The University of Tampa when its headquarters moved from the local high school to what is now known as Plant Hall. Leading the new institution was Frederic H. Spaulding, the former principal of Hillsborough High School.

Each new residential student must have a $200 housing application fee on file when the housing application is completed and submitted.
The University of Tampa's library opened Oct. 19, 1969, and was originally named in honor of the late St. Louis industrialist, Merl Kelce, whose donation made the construction possible. It was re-named the Macdonald-Kelce Library in 1999 because of the generosity of the Macdonald Family Foundation whose contribution will transform the facility into a state-of-the-art information resource center.

Full-time undergraduate and all international students pay a mandatory student health fee each semester. This provides for full use of the Dickey Health and Wellness Center, which includes health, counseling and wellness services.
The University of Tampa provides many lifestyle options. While every effort is made to accommodate all new and returning students who request housing, beginning in Fall 2016, new UT students will receive priority for on-campus residential assignments. Austin, McNeel Boathouse, McKay, Morsani, Smiley and Vaughn Center will all be designated as first-year residence halls. Depending on the first-year student class size, Brevard may also be used for some first-year students.
The Wellness Center is committed to fostering a healthy campus environment by empowering students to reach their full potential through increasing awareness of factors and resources that are associated with a holistic approach to wellness. By focusing on physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, occupational and financial wellness, students are educated on positive lifestyle choices and supported in their efforts for self-care in order to achieve and maintain optimal levels of wellness.
