In 1971, Pastor Jerry Falwell Sr. challenged his congregation at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va. to establish a Christian college whose students would “go out in all walks of life to impact this world for God.” Soon after, Lynchburg Baptist College became a reality.

Liberty University is a Christian academic community in the tradition of evangelical institutions of higher education. As such, Liberty continues the philosophy of education which first gave rise to the university, and which is summarized in the following propositions.

Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine (LUCOM) Center for Research consists of approximately 8,500-square-feet featuring a small dedicated animal facility, one large core lab, and five state-of-the-art molecular and cellular research labs.
