University of Michigan–Dearborn

Dearborn, Michigan, United States
We hail from every corner of the region, state, nation and world, coming together to shape leaders who address the complex challenges facing southeast Michigan and beyond. We prepare students to be Difference Makers in industry and in the community. And we’re addressing challenges to the region head-on through pioneering research, strategic partnerships and civic engagement.

University of Michigan-Dearborn was founded in 1959 with a gift of just over 200 acres of land and $6.5 million from the Ford Motor Co.

Since registering our first class of 34 students, we’ve continued to grow—setting a new enrollment record in 2012—and refine our vision for southeast Michigan.

We offer a transformative education reflective of University of Michigan acclaim and rooted in an ongoing commitment to transform metropolitan Detroit. Since our inception, we have set ourselves apart in higher education through intentional, meaningful engagement with local industry, government and nonprofits.

Both undergraduate and graduate students are able to work closely with faculty on critical, socially relevant research. Applied research is in our DNA. Our business and community partners rely on us to help generate real knowledge and real solutions. These projects allow you to get your hands and minds deep into real problems and learn through practice.

Every year, our Career Services Office helps students and alumni find full- and part-time positions within our partner organizations. Whether you aspire to be a mechanical engineer, financial adviser or biologist, we have the local, national and global connections to give you the experience and skills to succeed, wherever life takes you.

Student services

The Office for Student Engagement is your primary gateway to involvement at UM-Dearborn!

We engage students beyond the classroom through community service, leadership development, Greek Life, diversity and inclusion initiatives, campus activities and student organizations.

Housing services

It’s an exciting time to be a student at UM-Dearborn. You can choose to live in The Union at Dearborn, the recently opened housing option located adjacent to campus, or off campus in one of many friendly and safe local neighborhoods. We suggest visiting campus to get familiar with the area.

ICT services

UM-Dearborn ITS is responsible for providing our campus community with technology support and services. We are charged with maintaining our IT infrastructure, while providing support for classroom, lab and office computing, managing custom development services, and collaborating with partners across campus to advance the use of technology in support of our mission.

Medical services

Healthy living means physical, mental and emotional well-being. We provide a range of services to ensure that all students receive equal access to the support they need to thrive on and off campus.

Campus life

Dingell Transit Center. You can find coffee, snacks and meals to go right on campus. Central campus offerings include McKinley Café and Starbucks. Take some time to explore the metropolitan area and soak in the region’s history, culture and recreation. The Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce and Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau offer extensive listings of nearby attractions.

The Wellness Center, located inside the Fieldhouse, is open to all current students, faculty and staff. It features cardio equipment, free weights, weight machines, men’s and women’s locker rooms, two racquetball courts and a dance studio that holds various fitness classes.
