History
Shivaji University, established in 1962, is named after the Great Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji. It was inaugurated on 18th November, 1962 by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India. One of the major objectives behind foundation of this University was to cater to the regional needs of South Maharashtra.
Education
The future plans of the University include establishment of School of Rural Management, Research Institute of Bio-Technology and Advanced Centre of Information Technology.
Research
Shahu Research Center - The main objective of the Centre is to collect and publish the source material on the ‘Social History of Maharashtra’, especially the source material on Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati of Kolhapur, a great Social Revolutionary of the 20th Century in India.
Career
On 30th January, University had organized a free Mega Job Expo-2016 through its Central Placement Cell. Nearly 7500 job seekers enrolled for the expo and 4500 out of them were interviewed by the end of the day. Along with SUK's Central Placement Cell, Right-Way Academy, S.T.S. and Careertime dot In were the ally organizers. More than 60 companies from banking, finance, management, BPO, KPO, online delivery, electronics, software, IT, chemical, petroleum, hotel management, HR, sales & manufacturing, hospital management etc. had participated and interviewed more than 4500 job seekers.

Great learning experience with room to improve
My overall study experience at the university has been positive and satisfying.I especially appreciate the supportive faculty who are approachable and encourage students to ask questions and explore concepts in depth.The learning environment is motivating and there are opportunities to develop skills beyond academics. However, there are some areas that could be improved.More practical exposure,updated lab facilities, and better access to research resources would enhance the learning experience further.Additionally,improving administrative effieciency and communication would benefit students. Overall, I am satisified with my experience and I believe the university has strong potential to provide even better opportunities for students in future.

- Boys Hostel - Shivaji University boasts of three fully furnished and spacious boys’ hostels on its campus. As shown in the table, the Hostels are constructed at different times. The earliest constructed of the three is the Boys’ Hostel No. 1. Later on, with the emerging requirements two more hostels are constructed.

The University's efforts towards excellence are being recognised by the substantial grants received from funding agencies like UGC, DST, DBT etc. Shivaji University has recently signed MOU with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai for research in Material Science. It has also joined hands with Indian Institute of Geo-Magnetism, Mumbai and industries like Phyto-Pharma. Prestigious institutes like Maharashtra Police Academy, Nashik and Centre for Social Studies, Surat have sought affiliation with the Shivaji University.
