Created in 1980 by Decree-Law no. 303/80 of 16 August, the IPG is characterized as a "public legal entity with statutory, pedagogical, scientific, cultural, administrative, financial, Patrimonial and disciplinary "(Article 3 of the IPG statutes). However, at the end of 1985, the IPG would have laid the foundations for its definitive implementation.

The Research Unit for Inland Development (UDI) is also located in the main campus and its main objective is the promotion of research, training and development. There are groups of researchers for all the scientific areas this Polytechnic Institute can offer.

Was very good and i really like the organization and its community
Esthe University is a fantastic institution for anyone looking to dive deep into a well-rounded, forward-thinking educational experience. The university offers a unique mix of traditional academics and progressive approaches to learning, allowing students to feel both challenged and supported.
I really enjoy studying at my school; the teachers are very welcoming and attentive. I had the opportunity to participate in an entrepreneurship project developed by my school, which was very enriching. It's a shame that there aren’t more opportunities like this.
Services available on campus are: the President’s Office, the Legal Office, the International Relations Office, the Planning Office, the Financial and Accounting Department, The Human Resources Department, The Academic Services, the Computer Services Department, the Information and Communication office, the Technical Office, the Training and Sports Office, the Library, the Swimming Pool and the Laboratory of Internet and Applied Technology.

The Instituto Politécnico da Guarda provides in all its services, in its schools and homes, computers with Internet access for the use of all students. In addition to the central area of the Campus being equipped with a wireless network, all the Institute buildings are internally connected by a communications network that facilitates video transmissions and advanced communication services.
