In 1881 the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College as a center of higher education for young women. The college was admitted to membership in the Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in 1919, and joined the Texas Association of Colleges as a senior college in 1920. Incarnate Word College became the University of the Incarnate Word in 1996.
UIW offers 80 undergraduate and graduate fields of study, including the Ph.D. in Education and doctoral degrees in pharmacy (Pharm.D.), optometry (OD), nursing practice (DNP), physical therapy (DPT) and business administration (DBA). UIW is one of twenty universities in the U.S. with an optometry program, while the pharmacy school is the only one in Texas at a private university. In fall, 2017, the School of Osteopathic Medicine will welcome its first class of students to a new facility at Brooks City Base.
The Office of Research Development serves as the hub for UIW's Institutional Review Board, clinical trial registration, responsible conduct of research, and university research policy operations. We conduct on-demand training as needed and will always gladly review proposals and active projects for continued compliance.
Career Services & Professional Development is committed to providing career counseling and education to all students and alumni in all UIW programs. The services offered include, but are not limited to, individual career counseling, personality and career assessment, resume and cover letter review, career related workshops, and software resources. In addition, we host a number of on-campus employer events each semester.

The Campus Health Center provides basic health services that focus on primary prevention care, health education and counseling, care for acute minor illnesses and injuries, and the maintenance of health records and assistance with the university insurance plan.
UIW's well tended grounds, trees, blooming flowers, and classic architecture, provide a comfortable environment to study, think, and just hang out with friends. Students can enjoy a meal with new friends at one of UIW's four great on-campus dining locations. Marian Hall Café, Hortencia's Café, Java on the Hill, and Finnegan's Coffee Shop feature a wide variety of hot meals, pizza, soups, sandwiches, desserts, and even Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks Coffee. Students can use cash, credit cards, or even purchase a meal plan that can be used at any of the on-campus dining locations.
The University of the Incarnate Word Sports and Wellness department consists of the Richard and Jane Cervera Wellness Center, the Ann Barshop Natatorium and the Henrich Center for Fencing and International Sports as well as the intramural sport department and the club sport department. The purpose of the UIW Sports and Wellnesss is to enrich the lives of the UIW community through fitness, wellness and athletic participation and competition opportunities. UIW students and staff are eligible to compete in intramural sports, while club sports are generally reserved for UIW students. As part of the UIW Mission we extend membership opportunities to the local community.

I would really recommend my current university, our professors are qualified and have a different teaching method. Something that didn’t workout was; we are the first generation of this career in our campus.
