History
The Faculty of Social Sciences is one of the university's largest departments. The Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław was established in 1988. Initially students could study in three fields of study: philosophy, political science and sociology, and since 1995, also in international relations.
Education
Faculty of Social Sciences will support you in your scientific development, planning your career path and following your own interests. You will have individual consultations with lecturers, mentoring sessions and support in finding yourself in a new environment. Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences will open doors to a career in public institutions at the national and international level, governmental and non-governmental organisations, international trade, business, multinational corporations and media. Our graduates are highly valued specialists, journalists, analysts, experts, politicians and business consultants supporting international cooperation.
Research
Research within the Faculty of Social Sciences is conducted by researchers in four institutes (Institute of International Studies, Institute of Political Sciences, Institute of Sociology and Institute of Philosophy) and two sections (European Studies and Logic). They cover a broad range of areas from the field of social sciences, i.a. research in political science, social policy, international relations, international security, global studies, European studies and international communication. In the field of empirical and theoretical sociology, research is conducted in relation to various problems of sociology.
Career
You can launch your professional career even during your studies. The Careers Office of the University of Wroclaw publishes at their website job, internship and traineeship offers, organises meetings with potential employers, a mentoring programme and the programme „4 Steps to Career”.The staff also helps to map out an individual career path and the Individual Action Plan. They advise what second-cycle programme to select and how to determine one’s chances on the labour market.

Student services
After your arrival in Wrocław, this should be the second place, after the dormitory, which you visit. In the International Relations Office you can find out all about your study at the University, get your legitymacja and indeks and ask important ques-tions concerning your stay in Poland. You can also check your e-mails there. The office is located in the main build-ing of the University on the second floor. In addition to the International Relations Office, each department has a special Erasmus Coordinator, to whom you may put all questions con-cerning your studies in Wrocław.
Housing services
The University of Wrocław has five co-educational dormitories: Dwudziestolatka, Kredka, Ołówek, Parawanowiec, Słowianka.
All are located in the city center near Grunwaldzki Campus. Students are accommodated in single or double rooms, in Dwudziestolatka also in triple ones. All dormitories have Internet access, also wireless.
There are approx. 2000 places in the university’s dormitories. If the number of applicants exceeds housing capacity, priority will be given to full- and part-time (evening) students in difficult circumstances, who would not be able to take up studies due to daily commute or whose studying would be severely hindered due to daily commute.Library services
The University Library in Wrocław is considered an extraordinary academic library, because in addition to the universal research and teaching book collection, the subject matter of which corresponds to the scientific disciplines represented at the University, it has excellent special collections, which are its great asset.
ICT services
Students at the Faculty of Social Sciences have an access to the wireless internet in all the campus facilities. In the Faculty Library there is also a computer room available to the students. A team of faculty’s own IT specialists is there to assist the students in case of need.
Medical services
Students from EU countries are entitled to all medical services which you access with your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Please ask your health care provider for further instructions before coming to Poland. You don’t need to take the card with you; a confirmation certificate that you have one will do.
Campus life
All buildings of the Faculty of Social Sciences are located in one place. The faculty campus with all its institutes, library and administration is located on Koszarowa street no. 3 in Karłowice district of the city of Wrocław, just a few kilometers away from the center of the city. It is convincingly located and easily accessible by city public transport. On the campus there is a canteen and cafeteria and in the district surrounding it there are numerous restaurants, pubs, bars as well as supermarket, groceries etc.
Sports facilities
At the University of Wrocław sport is just as important as studying. This is demonstrated by good positions of our sections in the Lower Silesian Inter-University League and the Polish Academic Championships.The University’s athletes train in the following sections: aerobic, badminton, sports bridge, karate, croftball, women’s and men’s basketball, athletics, cross-country running, skiing, snowboard, women’s and men’s football, women’s handball, women’s and men’s swimming, women’s and men’s volleyball, chess, tennis, table tennis, floorball, rowing, and climbing.
Student clubs
- Studying is not all about participating in classes, but also in research groups and student organisations.
- Students organisations are primarily: Student Government: and Independent Students’ Association.
- Each year we organise the Research Groups and Student Organisations Fair, where you can talk with individual students.
Accreditation
The Faculty of Social Sciences and all its study programs are accredited by the Polish Accreditation Committee.
