History
Adopting the principle of 'Non scholae, sed vitae discimus' (learning not for school but for life), İstanbul Bilgi University took its place within the Turkish system of higher education as a civil corporation after the application made by the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation on 7 June 1996 and the subsequent approval by the Turkish Grand National Assembly as per the Law number 4142.
Education
Being part of Laureate International Universities Network, the founding premise of BİLGİ has become ‘to make education more accessible and affordable so that more students can pursue their dreams’.
Research
The Research Centre for the Environment, Energy and Sustainability, established in Fall 2010, aims to contribute to studies carried out in the field of the environment, taking into account all aspects of environmental problems, including energy and sustainability. The center also targets to construct a bridge between all stakeholders (universities, NGOs, public institutions, private sector etc).

A well chosen university
I am very satisfied of being a student at Bilgi University, It's located in the heart of Istanbul, it offers me a high quality educational system. It's an international University where many nationals study in one place. It prepares students to work life.
One of the Best for Design
I like my lecturers and I find the course map satisfactory. The course takes shape via your choosing of electives and you get to focus on what you as a creative want to do from year 2 onwards
Interdisciplinary and research-oriented programme
Studying Genetics and Bioengineering at Istanbul Bilgi University has provided me with a strong interdisciplinary foundation combining biology, engineering, and data-oriented thinking. The programme offers a well-structured curriculum that covers core areas such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and bioengineering, while also allowing students to develop analytical and problem-solving skills. One of the strengths of the programme is its emphasis on applied learning through laboratory courses, projects, and coursework that encourage critical thinking. I particularly appreciated the exposure to both experimental and computational perspectives, which helped me identify my interest in bioinformatics and data-driven biological research. The academic environment is supportive, and the programme encourages students to take initiative and engage with research-oriented thinking. While there is room for improvement in terms of expanding advanced computational course offerings, overall my experience has been positive and has prepared me well for postgraduate study in bioinformatics and computational biology.

Student services
Student Affairs Offices are responsible of informing all students about academic and administrative issues starting from their registration until their graduation. Student advisors help them in their communication with administrative/academic staff and work in coordination with the related units.
Housing services
İstanbul Bilgi University meets its students' accommodation needs through reliable dormitories located close to our campuses. We have agreements with these dormitories. These dormitories offer a range of room options with varying capacities and features.
Library services
İstanbul Bilgi University Library provides direct contribution to education, research and the intellectual development of students. Three libraries and seven study halls offer various spaces such as studying and reading sections for individual and collective use, comfortable reading sections, IT corners, etc.
Campus life
İstanbul Bilgi University has three campuses that are centrally located and offering a vivid and colorful student life with near 1,000 social and cultural events a year: Kuştepe, Dolapdere and santralistanbul.
Situated on a green field of 118 decares on the shores of Haliç, accessible from every part of the city, an arts and cultural complex within educational environment and encompasses Turkey's first power plant, which is a Energy Museum today.
Also, the santralistanbul-Annex Building offers more than 5,000 m2 space to around 3,000 students, that can be reached in four minutes from santralistanbul Campus.
Sports facilities
Our University attaches importance to sports in line with its mission of contributing to science and artistic production, and raising individuals with a sense of social responsibility who have good research and problem-solving skills, open to multidisciplinary approaches, and are open-minded. In addition to the necessity of sports for a healthy life, it is also considered to be the most important component of our students’ physical and social development in their hectic academic life. Our students who are aware that sports boost one’s confidence in life, contribute to their becoming an individual who can work as a team, has discipline, and can put up a struggle are offered to practice sports in many branches.
Student clubs
What adds quality to a university is definitely its academic competence. However, the life at BİLGİ is not only about the courses. There are more than 100 student clubs which will bring you together with other students with the same hobbies, interests and dreams, and where you can make friends and carry out events in collaboration.
