Founded in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, as Daystar Publications in 1964, the institution was moved to Kenya in 1971 and registered as Daystar Communications, a non-profit organization in 1973 offering a five-week International Institute for Christian Communication (IICC) course.
The Directorate promotes research among Daystar University Staff and Faculty by administering the University research funds and providing training in research methodology.

My university experience has been enriching and transformative, providing me with valuable academic knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and personal growth. While improvements in research resources, technology, and practical training opportunities would enhance the experience, overall it has prepared me well for future academic and professional success.
My Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health at Daystar University was a transformative academic and professional journey that shaped my understanding of public health, environmental protection, and sustainable development. Studying from August 2021 to November 2025, I benefited from a rigorous, values-driven curriculum that combined scientific theory with practical application, including environmental risk assessment, occupational health and safety, waste management, and disease prevention. Daystar University’s emphasis on ethical leadership, critical thinking, and community engagement allowed me to approach environmental health challenges with both technical competence and social responsibility. Through coursework, fieldwork, and collaborative projects, I developed strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills while gaining firsthand exposure to real-world environmental and public health issues affecting communities. Overall, my study experience was enriching and demanding, fostering academic discipline, professional confidence, and a deep commitment to using evidence-based solutions to improve environmental and public health outcomes.
I like the teaching model used by the lecturers which is interactive and enables students to share knowledge and work in teams. However, the tuition fees is too high and difficult for me to afford since I do not have a well paying job.
Daystar University Library provides print, audio-visual, and electronic information resources that support the learning and research needs of the university’s students and faculty.
Daystar University was first housed at the Nairobi Campus. This campus is located approximately two kilometres from the City Center, at the corner of Ngong Road and Valley Roads. It is a few minutes’ walk from Hurlingham shopping Center, the Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital. It also neighbours Nairobi Baptist Church and is easily accessible by public and private means. The campus hosts the diploma programmes, day and evening undergraduate programmes, Master’s programmes in Communication, Counseling Psychology, Theology, Economics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Child Development and Business, and PhD in Communication and Clinical Psychology.
Daystar University launched a new modern and well-equipped fitness facility in March 2021. The Jack and Camie Eugster Fitness Center was commissioned by the Daystar Co- founder Dr. Donald Smith and The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro at the Athi River Campus. The commissioning of the gym was part of a joint launch of the redefined University’s Strategic Plan. The process of the strategic plan was a result of self-examination and engagement with stakeholders to challenge the status quo to accommodate the new way of life brought about the Covid-19 pandemic.
