Kemi-Tornio UAS considers its most important task to be the training of entrepreneurial spirited, highly skilled people, who understand the conditions and possibilities of the North. The UAS provides education for the young and adults leading to Bachelor’s and master's degrees in the fields of business and administration, culture, technology, health care and social services and natural sciences. KTUAS has a variety of 18 degree programmes, in five of which the language of teaching and studying is English.

Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences was established in 1992. At the moment there are altogether 2600 students and the staff consists of approximately 220 persons.


Open University of Applied Sciences (Open UAS) students can study in the group of degree programme students according to their timetables. Open studies have the same objectives, contents, requirements and teachers as the studies of Lapland UAS’ degree programmes.


The research, development and educational activities of the Lapland University of Applied Sciences promote and build nationally and internationally strong safety competence. Multidisciplinary safety competence supports the safety of individuals, operating environments and occupations, and promotes the internationalisation and competitiveness of the region’s operators and business life.

Student services

Tutoring is in practise done by teacher tutors, student tutors and the Study Counsellor. A teacher tutor is a teacher who guides the students of the group s/he is in charge of. The departments may have different terms for this kind of person. Each new group will get their own student tutor, who advises the students of the group individually on their studies.

They also introduce the school and the town and its services to the new students. You can contact your own student tutor whether it concerns studies or hobbies. For discussion of the content of a particular course, students should contact the teacher of the course.

Housing services

Exchange students are accommodated either in Kemi or Tornio depending on their study program or the location of the practical training placement. When applying please indicate what kind of accommodation you prefer, we try to fulfill your expectations. If you want to move in to the flat together with another person, please name the person in question.

ICT services

This is the LUC IT Lapland, Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences and the Education and Training within the service area of IT-shop information site.The services provided by the IT shop:

  • IT orders (eg. Purchases, usernames, installation, telephone connections)
  • Subscribing to the Middle aid (request in good time so that it can be implemented)

Medical services

University students belong to the municipal student health care system. There are school nurses working in the departments and students can go and see them personally. Before seeing the nurse get familiar with some self-care instructions made by the school nurses concerning the most common sicknesses.

Student Life

Campus life

Finland is located in northern Europe between the 60th and 70th parallels of latitude. One quarter of Finland’s total area lies north of the Arctic Circle (Napapiiri in Finnish). The topography of Finland is flat with the exception of the high rounded fells in Lapland, the northern part of the country. Thousands of lakes, rivers and streams as well as forests and woods dominate the Finnish landscape.

Sports facilities

Sports services are indented for University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences students and staff. The sports services become available, when acquiring Sportpass.

The SportPass is a sticker that is placed on your student union card. The Sports Pass can only be used by the individual student who purchases it. The pass is valid for half year or academic year.

Student clubs

A Student Union can be found from every University of Applied Sciences in Finland. In Lapland UAS, it bears the name ROTKO. Together we, the representatives and members of the executive board of the Union.

As a vigilant watchdog of student affairs, our mission is to ensure that the students' voice is heard in all decision making which concerns studying itself and student life in general. Our important objective is to maintain the student culture both at school and during free time. Because student life shouldn't be just hard work, several student association in the school, among with Student Union ROTKO, organizes various events and happenings throughout the school year.
