Established by an Act of Parliament in 1974, The College was created through the amalgamation of four institutions: The Bahamas Teachers' College, San Salvador Teachers' College, C. R. Walker Technical College and the sixth form programme of The Government High School.
As it transitions to university status, the institution will continue to deliver excellent undergraduate teaching while developing new undergraduate and graduate programmes, increasing research and innovation activities, and focusing its work in areas crucial to national development.
After more than thirty-five years of serving The Bahamas, first as a two-year institution, then as a four-year degree-granting College, COB became The University of The Bahamas.

Truthfully it is a great place to study however the university is not advanced, and the infrastructure is old and antiquated. The university tends to prolong and hinder your time there since classes are not flexible for working adults.
Overall, my experience studying Gastronomy at UNINASSAU was very positive and practical. The curriculum is highly aligned with real market demands, focusing not just on culinary techniques but also on entrepreneurship and kitchen management, which is a huge differentiator. What I liked most: Faculty: The professors are experienced, active in the market, and always willing to share real-world insights and mentorship. Practical labs: The infrastructure for hands-on classes provided a realistic simulation of professional kitchen environments. Administration: The student portal and administrative processes (like getting documents or quick answers from support) can be slow at times and could be more streamlined. It is an excellent choice for anyone looking to get a degree that balances technical culinary skills with the business side of hospitality and events. It gave me a strong foundation for my career.
At the University of the Bahamas, the lecturers do not believe in assisting you with understanding the lesson. They believe that you must teach yourself everything.

The principal campus of The College of The Bahamas system, the Oakes Field Campus (OFC), is highly urbanised, situated within two miles of the centre of Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas.
The College of The Bahamas Libraries and Instructional Media Services Department (LIMS) is a system of three libraries: Harry C. Moore Library and Information Centre [HCML] (the main library) located at the Oakes Field Campus, Hilda Bowen Library (HBL) at the Grosvenor Close Campus (off Shirley Street) and the Northern Campus Library (NCL) at the Northern Bahamas Campus in East Grand Bahama.
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has responsibility for the development, provision and maintenance of communications and information technology at the College and for supporting the teaching and learning processes at The College. OIT maintains a network infrastructure built upon a single-mode, 12-strand fibre optic loop that spans the Oakes Field Campus.
