History
Formerly called Kaohsiung Polytechnic Institute (KPI), I-Shou University (ISU) was established in 1986 by Chairman I-Shou Lin of E United Group to commemorate his mother as well as to benefit the villages and towns where he started his business.
Education
Built on a solid foundation of sustainable and continuous development, ISU currently has nine colleges: College of Electrical & Information Engineering, College of Science & Engineering, College of Management, International College, College of Language Arts, College of Tourism & Hospitality, College of Communication & Design, College of Medicine, and College of Indigenous Studies, and it works toward becoming an international comprehensive university which equally values humanities and technology as well as cultivates professionals to serve the current and future needs of the industry.

Housing services
ISU provides an environment ideal for study, and it is a safe and comfortable place for students to stay. There are five dormitories accommodating nearly 7,000 students. There are cafes and restaurants, bookstore, post office and general stores on campus for the convenience of faculty and students.
Some houses or rooms are available for rent in nearby residential communities. Students with off-campus living in mind should pay close attention to the terms specified in the contract before signing, particularly with regard to (a) reasonableness of rent, (b) length of rental period, (c) amount of deposit, (d) time and method of payment, (e) penalties for contract violation, (f) options to extend rental period.
Campus life
The campus has all the modern facilities expected from today’s universities. The fully automated library has completed collections in all related fields. All major journals and trade publications for the faculties and departments of ISU are subscribed in electronic and print form. Computer labs with more than 100 multimedia personal computers are available for self-directed learning and training sessions.
Sports facilities
In terms of leisure facilities, a domed basketball court, an Olympic-size swimming pool designed for competitions and available for everyday use, a roller-skating ring, running track, a soccer field, tennis courts and auditoriums are available for personal use of faculty and students as well as indoor and outdoor public performances and concerts.
