In Nancy, three universities were founded in the 20th century, among which a National Polytechnic Institute that combined several engineering schools. In Metz, the first university appeared in 1970. On January 1st, 2012, after several years of preparation, these four universities merged into one, forming Université de Lorraine.
Université de Lorraine promotes innovation through the dialogue of knowledge, taking advantage of the variety and strength of its scientific fields, and aiming at the promotion of knowledge transfer to irrigate innovation and economic growth as well as the progress of fundamental science.
There is no coincidence. The scientific thematic areas which have developed in Lorraine result from this region’s history, through the cross-fertilization of scientific fields present for a century, and through their highly increased interaction in the last decade.

Lorraine is teeming with cultural venues, cinemas, theaters and other concert halls. Université de Lorraine also proposes a particularly rich cultural offer, open to all study fields. It owns and directly manages the Theater of Saulcy, Bernard-Marie Koltès space, labelled as a "scene theatre of Contemporary writings" on the campus of the Saulcy in Metz. This theatre provides professional and amateur live entertainment and allows students to organize artistic and cultural projects.
In France, student housing and catering are managed by a public institution: the CROUS (Regional Centre for student support) )
As we are part of the University of the Greater Region, please note that you have a free access to all the libraries of the partner universities (University of the Saar, University of Luxembourg, University of Liège, University of Trier, University of Kaiserslautern).
Healthcare coverage in France is made up of a compulsory social protection (the so-called social security) and a complementary optional health insurance.
Some of the campuses are located in the heart of the city, close to train stations, amenities, and cultural sites. Others are located in wooded areas away from major roads.
All of them, however, are easy to access and are connected to each other and to the inner city through performant and safe public transit.
Something I understood thanks to uni, people are lazy in all level of life. Studying engineering sounds hard, but when you get in it's not really hard. Just do what you like to do and you'll see how it can get easy. Having international opportunities is even better, so don't hesitate anymore!
Online studies. Twice/year I went to my university just for exams
