When the University of Georgia was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly on January 27, 1785, Georgia became the first state to charter a state-supported university. In 1784 the General Assembly had set aside 40,000 acres of land to endow a college or seminary of learning.


As a comprehensive land-grant and sea-grant institution, the University of Georgia offers baccalaureate, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees in the arts, humanities, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, agricultural and environmental sciences, business, ecology, engineering, environmental design, family and consumer sciences, forest resources, journalism and mass communication, education, law, pharmacy, public health, social work, and veterinary medicine.

ArchPass Two-factor Authentication

  • ArchPass two-factor authentication is a more secure method to protect restricted data from theft and misuse. This extra layer of security minimizes the possibility of accessing restricted data by just using a shared, stolen or guessed password of an authorized user.

University Health Center Services for UGA Faculty and Staff

  • Although primary medical care is exclusively for students, there are many services that are available to faculty/staff, spouses, dependents and even the general public.

Campus life

  • Athens, Georgia (Clarke County), about 60 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
  • Main campus: 460 buildings on 762 acres.

Sports facilities

The campus's eight-acre Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities has 3 gyms, 3 pools (one Olympic-sized, a 17-foot (5.2 m) diving well, and a lap pool), a 1/8 mile indoor suspended rubberized track, a 44 feet (13 m)-high climbing wall, 14-foot (4.3 m) outdoor bouldering wall, 10 racquetball courts, 2 squash courts, bicycle repair stands, 8 full-length basketball courts, and 19,000 square feet (1,770 m2) of weight-training space.

Student clubs

  • More than 600 registered student organizations, including 32 social fraternities and 26 social sororities

The University of Georgia provides an incredible study environment with highly qualified teachers and a beautiful campus. The town is amazing, the people are kind, and there is something for everyone. It is a University based off of tradition.

I am amazed by The University of Georgia. There are so many options of study and a community to keep pushing you beyond your limits. I don't know if there is anything I would change about the time I have already had at UGA other than I wish It would last longer!
