History
- May 31,1949 - Fukui University established by integrating Fukui Normal School, Fukui Normal School for Youth, and Fukui Techinical college.
- Oct. 1,1978 - Fukui Medical School established.
- Apr. 1,1980 - Fukui Medical Scool officially opened.
- Oct. 1,1983 - Fukui Medical School Hospital founded.
- Oct. 1,2003 - Fukui University and Fukui Medical School merged to form the University of Fukui.

- The School of Education consists of a primary education course and a secondary education course, developing teacher-learners who have the ability to work with the community and actively improve school education.
- The School of Medical Sciences aims to cultivate trustworthy healthcare professionals and researchers with an advanced level of knowledge in medical and nursing sciences.
- The School of Engineering has it as its educational mission to produce “global imagineers,” engineers who combine imagination with sophisticated technological skills.
- The School of Global and Community Studies (GCS) produces individuals who can undertake new kinds of regional revitalization.

Housing services
Four dormitories are available for international students.
- Makishima House (Bunkyo Campus)
This newly renovated dormitory (open in April 2019) is provided for international students and is on Bunkyo Campus.
- Overseas Student House (Bunkyo Campus)
The Overseas Student House is provided for international students and is a 5-minute walk from the Bunkyo Campus.
- Student Dormitory (Bunkyo Campus)
The Student Dormitory is for both Japanese and international students. It is a 5-minute walk from the Bunkyo Campus. Recruitment of applicants (international students) is posted on the bulletin board of the Student Service Center.
- International House (Matsuoka Campus)
Medical services
Both the Bunkyo and Matsuoka Campuses have a Health Administration Center. The center on the Bunkyo Campus is located next to the Memorial Academy Hall behind the Central Administration Building, which is to the left of the front entrance. The Center on the Matsuoka Campus is located in front of the Academic Affairs Office on the first floor of the Administration Building.
