The Centre for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds was formed in 1966 as a joint initiative of the Department of Civil Engineering and the School of Economic Studies, with financial support for academic posts from Shell International and from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund.

ITS is a leading international centre for transport research. It is particularly notable for the breadth and depth of research, the international quality of which has been verified by Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) stretching back over a period of 20 years.
The research is sponsored by a variety of organisations, including the UK Department for Transport, the European Commission, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. ITS was also the first academic unit in Britain to achieve ISO 9001 accreditation for research management.

The Edge boasts a 25m eight-lane swimming pool with a movable floor and we have swimming lessons for children and adults, as well as a sauna and steam room so you can relax after a workout.
Leeds University Union (LUU) is a democracy, giving students the power to create change. When you register at the University, you automatically become a member of LUU, entitling you to vote in elections, put forward motions, attend Union Council and vote at referenda.
