The School of Science engages in world-class fundamental and applied research, the results of which it uses to develop scientific and technological applications. The fields of computing and modelling, materials physics, energy science, software and media technologies, technology-based business and enterprising as well as brain research and imaging technologies account for a large share of the research and teaching conducted by the seven departments.
The School of Science provides students with both practical skills needed for the future career, as well as the theoretical aspects of the chosen field. Graduates from the school will have excellent basis for the future careers whether it is partaking in the buzzing start-up community around or academic career at doctoral level.

Otaniemi CampusThe Aalto University School of Science is based in Otaniemi in Espoo, 10 km from the center of Helsinki, on a campus designed by Alvar Aalto. Otaniemi has the highest concentration of high technology in the Nordic countries. A unique combination of education, study and business is densely packed into this small area.Otaniemi has twice been chosen as one of the most innovative areas in Europe, and it has also been awarded the EU Award of Excellence. Several head offices of some of Finland’s largest companies – one of them Nokia – can be found near Otaniemi.The ‘Teekkarikylä’ Student Village, home to over 2,000 students of technology, is also located in Otaniemi. There are over one hundred student organizations on campus which provide a range of opportunities to take part in pastimes of various kinds, from sports to music.
