Overview
This degree will be granted only to students who have been admitted to the doctorate in Film and Media Studies but are subsequently unable to finish the program. The terminal MA in Film and Media Studies provides this group of doctoral students the possibility of a terminal degree that acknowledges their time of study. A total of 25 credits is needed.
Career Prospects
The Master’s paper is required for a terminal MA in Film Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. This project can be based on a paper prepared for a film class. It should be between 6,000-8,000 words following MLA format. One Film and Media Studies faculty member will supervise the paper (most likely the instructor for the class in which the paper was written).

- Students who have already entered graduate programs in associated departments are welcome to apply to the Film and Media Studies PhD Program through the normal application process.
- If accepted into the Film and Media Studies Program, they are eligible to transfer a maximum of 24 credits towards the Film and Media Studies PhD degree requirements, and can petition to waive required courses that have been fulfilled, following normal University, School and Program regulations.
