Overview
The Laboratory Research in Pharmacology and Toxicology is administered jointly by the colleges of Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, and Veterinary Medicine.
Learning outcomes
The College of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University is the primary administrative unit. All three colleges offer a Master of Science degree program in Laboratory Research in Pharmacology and Toxicology, a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degree program in Pharmacology and Toxicology, and a Graduate Certificate in Safety Pharmacology. A Master of Science degree in Integrative Pharmacology is also available for professional laboratory personnel. In addition, the College of Veterinary Medicine offers a Doctor of Philosophy degree program with a major in pharmacology and toxicology—environmental toxicology.
Research strengths include neuropharmacology neurotoxicology, cardiovascular pharmacology, chemical carcinogenesis, environmental toxicology, drug discovery, drug receptor pharmacology, gastrointestinal pharmacology, immunopharmacology, immunotoxicology, and integrative pharmacology.
Students who are enrolled in Master of Science degree programs in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology may elect a Specialization in Food Safety. For additional information, refer to the statement on the specialization in the College of Veterinary Medicine section of this catalog.

- The student must complete 30 credits under Plan A (with thesis) as approved by the student’s guidance committee.
