This specialization prepares students to design and conduct research on teaching/teacher education and curriculum and instruction, with an emphasis on linking theory to physical education practice. The program aims to provide requisite knowledge and skills needed to assume leadership roles in the individual's chosen environment. Interdisciplinary collaboration and research across CEHD are viewed as integral components of the Sport Pedagogy Program.

The Department of Health & Kinesiology has outstanding faculty, staff, students, and facilities and has been consistently recognized as one of the nation's largest and best programs in our field. Our faculty and students are actively engaged in the practice and study of physical activity, sport and health that is making a national and international impact. 

The department is comprised of four divisions including Health Education, Kinesiology, Sport Management, and the Physical Education Activity Program (PEAP). Department majors prepare for careers in allied health, athletic training, applied exercise physiology, basic exercise physiology, community health, clinical exercise physiology; dance science, motor behavior, motor neuroscience, school health (teacher certification), sport management, sports pedagogy (teacher certification), and sports physiology. Our allied health, motor behavior, basic exercise physiology, and applied exercise physiology programs provide relevant preparation and opportunities for students to take necessary pre-requisites for seeking entry into professional schools like nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, and medicine or graduate study in our fields.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. Academic Requirements

Admissions into an HLKN Master's program is based on:

  • The applicant's academic record - including an undergraduate grade point ratio (GPR) in the last 60 semester hours
  • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (not required for M.S. in sport management or health education programs at this time)
  • Relevant experience as shown on resume or CV
  • Foreign students whose native language is not English must have a score of at least 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination
  • Students desiring to complete a thesis must submit written request to do so in the essay
  • Personal statement of purpose essay
  • Three letters of reference
