The Master of Teaching offered at Southern Cross University is a graduate-entry qualification that prepares graduates for secondary or early childhood teaching. Graduates can teach in secondary schools (up to two subjects), or in early childhood settings (six-weeks to five-years-old) depending on their selected stream

Overview

The Teaching degree offered at Southern Cross University includes an extended educational research project. Professional experience placements are included throughout the course to enable students to become highly competent and experienced teachers.

Career

Graduates will typically work as teachers in either secondary schools or in early childhood settings, nationally and internationally. Some graduates may pursue work in a range of training and development settings in industry, the public service and the arts.

Accreditation

The Masters of Teaching has accreditation with the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards (BOSTES). Courses accredited by BOSTES have national accreditation through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

The Masters of Teaching also has accreditation as an early childhood teaching qualification by the Australian Children’s Early Childhood Quality Authority (ACECQA).

Usually, Australian teacher qualifications are recognised internationally, but students need to check with potential employers and teacher registration authorities in other countries regarding accreditation requirements.

General Requirements

Qualification equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree [suggest linking to policy], plus specific requirements as indicated in the course structure tab. Students are required to have a degree considered by the University to be equivalent to an Australian Bachelor degree. Students without a degree but with substantial relevant work experience may be admitted to a Graduate Diploma or Masters.
