Overview

The Design, Master Studio programme, at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, sees itself as an experimental, discourse and production space. In exchange with mentors and external experts, students translate aspects of research, economics, technology and culture into future design fields of action. As a designer from various disciplines, you open up new perspectives for your professional career.

The curriculum of the degree program is divided into interdisciplinary core modules and freely selectable specialization programs. This gives you the opportunity to optimally develop your individual knowledge areas, interests and abilities in an interdisciplinary, inspiring learning environment.

The Master's Studio is a full-time study program with a standard duration of three semesters. The extension to a fourth semester is possible with the exception of the Studio Fashion Design.

Career Development

As graduates of a degree course at the Institut Integrative Gestaltung | Master Studio 

  • work as holistic designers in cultural or commercial occupational fields
  • take responsible positions in full-service design agencies
  • create startups with new fields of activity
  • you are employed as Art and Creative Director

Programme Structure

Embedded in a transdisciplinary curriculum, "Masterstudio Design" combines four in-depth study programs and thus enables the individual development of interests, knowledge fields and abilities in a pulsating learning environment:

Academic requirements

GPA admission requirements GPA Your GPA, or Grade Point Average, is a number that indicates how well or how high you scored in your courses on average. Usually a GPA scales between 1.0 and 4.0, however different countries and universities can have different grading systems.
GMAT admission requirements GMAT The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a graduate management program, such as an MBA. GMAT contains 4 sections - Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal. The score has a range from 200 - 800.

English requirements

IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).
TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at desiganated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
PTE Academic admission requirements PTE Academic PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. The score refers to a total score which ranges between 10 and 90.

General requirements

  • The study program is aimed at applicants with a university degree from a Swiss university for design and art or the Hochschule der Künste. 
  • University graduates with a focus on humanities or technical subjects are also eligible. Transfers from other universities are possible and are checked individually. 
  • The language of instruction is German and English. For German-speaking students a CEFR level B2 is expected in English. The proof can be documented by means of a certificate or can be provided during the admission interview.
