The Secondary Education and Special Education graduate program at Temple University teaches students how to create inclusive and nurturing classroom environments for all students, including those with disabilities, learning deficits and language differences, as well as those from different cultures.

The Secondary Education and Special Education MEd program is designed for individuals choosing to change careers after earning a bachelor’s degree in another field, to prepare them for initial teacher certification in secondary education (grades 7 through 12) and special education (grades 7 through 12).

Classes and Curriculum

This combined MEd degree program may be completed on a part- or a full-time basis, with evening classes that accommodate the schedules of working professionals. Though the logistics of field experience could change in any given semester, students usually spend seven full days in the classroom over the course of a semester. During the student-teaching semester, students must spend every day in the classroom for 14 weeks.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
