The MA degree programme in Marketing Communication at University of Malta has been created to respond to developments in the way contemporary marketers are communicating with current and prospective customers. Today’s marketing communication environment presents many challenges to managers as they work with their partners to create marketing communication programmes that are strategically on target and maximize their productivity and impact. This degree programme is designed to help managers understand the rapidly evolving world of marketing and communications and to learn how various marketing activities such as advertising, public relations, the Internet, interactive media, direct and database marketing and social media can be combined most effectively to meet the marketing communication needs of an organisation.

The program recognises the increased fragmentation of mass audiences and the escalating challenges associated with effective product differentiation that today’s organisations face. Marketing communication pursues the goal of customer attraction and retention via the creation of effective two-way communication between the organisation and its stakeholders. Students learn about the profitable integration of marketing, organisational structures, information technology and marketing activities that provide a value offering fostering relationships of loyalty.

Programme Structure

The program will be delivered over 3 semesters (approximately 12 months) on a full-time basis starting in October. Throughout the first and second semesters, classes are held on a block basis allowing for each study module to have a pre-reading period, a delivery period, and a post-delivery period. The summer semester will be devoted to a dissertation. Attendance is obligatory and students must attend at least 75% of the lectures and complete all assigned work.

The pre-reading period will mostly take place in the week prior to the start of the actual delivery period. This period is dedicated to individual reading, group discussion, and study sessions. The pre-reading period will ensure that students are prepared for the intense instruction delivered by visiting international academics and University of Malta faculty.
