The Institute of Environmental Sciences represents all fields within this discipline at the University of Zurich. It specializes in interdisciplinary research of biodiversity. Environmental scientists examine the living requirements of humans, flora and fauna and investigate the reciprocal dependencies between human culture and civilization and animate and inanimate nature.

About

In both teaching and research, examples are taken to illustrate the central issues in environmental sciences and methods from both the natural sciences and the humanities are implemented to explore the issues.

The interdisciplinary approach allows scientists to formulate questions relevant to the environment and to tackle specific problems with the help of scientific methods.

The study program of the Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Sciences allows students to specialize within the field of environmental sciences. Students wishing to graduate with an MSc in Environmental Sciences enter a specialized Master’s program. The MSc in Environmental Sciences is a qualification for careers in environmental sciences.

The Master’s degree also serves as a basis for a dissertation and forms the academic foundation to the study program for the Teaching Diploma for Secondary Education.
